For Renters

To rent a boat, you must:

  • be over 18;
  • have a valid identity card and residence card.
  • If you want to rent a boat without a captain, and the ship is longer than 7 meters, you must have a valid boat driving license.

As a registered user, you agree to submit reliable and valid information during the registration process. For the detailed rental policies, please read our Terms and Conditions.

If you like a boat just simply select the suitable booking date and then press the reservation button.

Following the confirmation of your reservation, the payment interface becomes available. To complete your reservation, you must pay 50% of the rent as a deposit in advance via the payment interface. Boatly will require a credit card hold of the remaining 50% of the rental and the security deposit 48 hours before taking over the boat.

Please make sure that the coverage of the rent and the security deposit is available on your card.
Important note: the boat owner will only receive the rent if the rental is completed and no complaints have been received. Boatly will request an authorization hold of the rent until the rental is completed. It helps protect you from paying for a boat that does not match with the description.

You can track your reservation at any time by visiting your account and going to the ‘My Reservations’ page. We also email a copy of your confirmation to you, including all your reservation details.

ADVICE: Always liaise with the owner on the exact date and location of the boat transfer process and the boat’s security equipment.

It is required that the condition of the boat is recorded before and after the rental on the signed Boatly Checklist. Keep in mind; it is the responsibility of both the renter and the owner to assess the boat for any new damage caused during the rental period and to sign off on the state of the boat.

The Boatly Checklist consists the followings:

  • Health and safety: boats are required to have safety equipment as specified in the Shipping Rules. For eg., an appropriate number of life vests.
  • Review (Beginning Of Booking): Document any actual damage (include photos), and mark the fuel level on the Boatly Checklist.
  • Fuel: Before the booking, the owner and renter will agree on a fuel policy (if required by the boat's category). Please discuss to make sure that your fuel policy is agreed upon by both parties, and that the pre-rental fuel amount is noted.
  • Review (End Of Booking): Document any new damages (include photos), and the fuel level on the Boatly Checklist.
  • Signatures: Both the renter and the owner (or their representatives) must sign the Boatly Checklist.

Make sure to print out a copy of the Boatly Checklist to be completed and signed by both boat owner and renter the day of the rental. If there are damages or losses incurred during the rental, please report it immediately to boatly.

To modify the reservation, both parties must contribute.

You can cancel your booking up to 14 days before picking up the boat.

For the full Cancellation policy, please read our Terms and Conditions.

There are several ways to choose from the boats:

  • Select on the landing page for how long and for how many people you wish to rent a boat;
  • or press the search button in the search bar;
  • or scroll down the page and browse among the featured ships.

Once you have identified your ideal boat, submit a booking request!

To view available boating dates, click on the logbook, which is at the bottom of boats data sheet. Dates that blued out are unavailable, days marked in white are free. Dark grey represents the current day.

You can reserve two types of categories:

  • Full-Day Rental (8 hours)
  • Multi-Day Rental (moored in a safe location after sundown)

Please note, that the exact time of departure and return is up to the renter and boat owner to determine.

If you would like to ask some questions, you can send a short message to the owner after you’ve set your reservation parameters on the boat data sheet.

Upon receiving a message, you will see a new notification in the top right corner. Click the notification or go straight to your Inbox to view the message. In addition to viewing the message on the site, you will also receive an email notification alert.

We want to ensure that everyone has a great experience when they rent a boat on boatly, so we kindly ask you to double-check the boat data sheet before you send any question to the owner.

When you discover a listing that you like or one you hope to rent in the future, add it to your favourite boats direct from the landing or search page by clicking the blue heart on the bottom right of the boat’s index image. You can also favourite a boat on the data sheet, right under the reservation button.

Adding boats to your favourites allows you to track their availability and helps you find them easily next time.

You can view your favourites at any time by clicking “Favourites” on your profile page.

For Owners

First, you must register your boat on boatly. During the registration process, you can give all relevant information related to your boat (general information, ship parameters and pricing). The conditions and the pricing of the boat rental are always up to you. Your boat can be rented only with your approval.

We are proud to say that boatly has the highest standard website on the Hungarian boat rental market. Our automated processes, comprehensive service portfolio and intense marketing activity, aims to help boat owner’s rental activities.

Here is what we offer:

  • You don’t have to create your website for your boat rental. We provide a rental surface which helps you to reach potential new customers as a private boat owner with the same rental possibilities as the charter boats.
  • Boatly supports your rental activity with intensive and large-scale marketing campaigns.
  • In addition to the rental period, peace of mind and insurance is included with every rental on Boatly.
  • No monthly fee, no fixed costs. Boatly charges a commission after completed rentals only.
  • The conditions and the pricing of the boat rental are always up to you.  Since both the renters and the owners must be reviewed at the end of the rental, so you can learn in advance what you can expect from the renter.

The conditions and the pricing of the boat rental are completely up to you. When you're new to the site, we advise you to compare the prices to similar boats. From your rental fee boatly will only deduct the sales commission.

We advise you to consider the followings when you set the daily price of your boat:

  • the fuel consumption under normal use, if your boat has an engine;
  • the cleaning fee, if you hire the harbour or a professional cleaning company to clean your boat after the rental.

Even after extensive research we could not find any regulations that prohibit private individuals from renting a boat. Based on the available information, renting a boat is considered as renting a movable property. For tax purposes, this is income from self-employment. In this case, the income may be determined by two methods.

  • The simpler way is the so-called use of 10% cost ratio: when 10% of the revenue will be considered as a cost, and 90% of the revenue will be considered as income and included in the consolidated tax base.
  • The other way is the itemised cost accounting. In that case, we get the exact amount of the taxable income if the costs certified by invoices will be deducted from the revenue.

Based on our information, private individuals in Hungary are obliged to pay 15% personal income tax and 27% health care contribution in case of boat rental. However, for more detailed information we recommend to consult a professional accounting or tax advisor.

Boatly does not charge any monthly fee or other fixed costs. The commission rate is the only fee you will be paying us for a completed rental. The commission rate is 35% of the rent.

Boatly uses the Barion secure online payment system (read more about Barion here).

Payment method:

  • The renter must transfer 50% of the booking fee when reserving the boat. This amount will remain on our Barion account as a deposit until the beginning of the rental. A notification email will be sent to you once the crediting has been completed.
  • Boatly will require a credit card hold of the remaining 50% of the rental and the bond 48 hours before the renter is taking over the boat. If the credit card hold were successful, you would receive a notification.
  • After the rental is completed, your boat was brought back, and it is confirmed that all went well, the part of the rent will be credited to our Barion account, and the renter will get the bond released. The boat rental fee will be deposited directly into the bank account you provide via Barion within 3 working days after the completion of the rental, less boatly’s commission fee.

Check-In/Out

It is up to you to do the check-in/out by yourself or leave it to a third party for e.g. to the port orto boatly. Please note that besides you, perhaps the boys at port know your boat the best. It will greatly facilitate the check-in/out, improve the experience of renters, so your boat may get a better review on the site.

Once you meet the renter, it is important to complete the Boatly Check List.

ADDITIONAL ADVICE: make photos during the check-in/out to prepare for potential disputes.

Cleaning

It is up to you to clean the boat after the rental by yourself or leave it to a third party.

ADVICE: Cleaning can be included in the rent, so it may be worth to hire the cleaning service at your port.
